I love a good warm hug as a book and this was exactly that. It’s cozy and sweet. Has multiple beautiful messages about being yourself and how lovely it is to grow old. The art and colors just add to the cozy feel as well.

It's only April, but I'm almost certain this will end up being one of my favorite books of the year! The artwork is absolute stunning, and the story about the challenges of becoming and being a grown-up and aging through the eyes of three protagonists with vastly different perspectives really struck a chord with me. This is one of the rare books I can see being enjoyable for readers across generations.

Seance Tear Party was an adorable middle grade graphic novel about growing up and finding your people. It is also about grief and letting go. This was a quick and sweet read with a colorful cast of inclusive characters!

The first half of this I was not overly drawn into and I only read a few pages at a time. It's the kind of graphic novel that is heavy on impactful imagery and less reliant on text, so you need to pay close attention to the visual details that indicate time passing, etc. As the second half began to pick up speed, the characters grew more endearing and I became much more invested in their journies.

It was a transition from a childhood - full of creativity, wonder, and imaginary friends - into the early teens - full of new interests, complex relationships, and social expectations. There was an exploration of grief regarding death of a friend and the grief of transitioning away from the innocence and magic of childhood. By the end I was pleased with how the main characters had matured and grown alongside each other and the magic that developed along the way was beautifully done.
