4 stars for the first story, the others though interconnected and of similar tone fell a bit flat for me. 

This is said to be a novel, but it is more of an interconnected short story collection. The characters are interconnected but the stories for me do not really build into one cohesive novel. 

I really enjoyed the first story of Annie, Edward, Rose, and Stephanie.  It was unique, interesting, and filled with magical realism.  There was a charm that shifted in a plausable and engrossing way.  
The other stories left me wanting a bit.
