The art was gorgeous at times. The story was very shallow. For the first half, I had no idea what was even happening. It was good enough that I'll read book two and see if I want to continue after that. Thankfully my library has several volumes of this.

this is the second comic book I read this year about gods living among us. pretty good stuff. can't help but think these books are just pitches to get a TV series or movie though

The premise was really interesting, and the characters were REALLY diverse and intriguing, and then somewhere along the way the plot got confusing and the character motives were shaky and unclear and the story overall wasn't what I wanted it to be. It was still really compelling and I think things might be better explained and fleshed out in the future volumes.

The Wicked + The Divine is possibly my favorite new comic of 2014. It's strange and and beautiful and mythic, and it had me hooked from the first issue. Gillen's writing, McKelvie's art, and Wilson's colors work together perfectly. I've been buying the singles, but I checked out the trade to re-read the first arc at once (and for the pretty gallery of variants). It's just as satisfying and weird the second time around.
