I started reading some of Adrian's books last year. And I read the Children of Time series and love the story. Then when I seen this series. I thought I'd give it ago. I did find it abit slow at the start. But about halfway through, I just got into it, and couldn't put it down (as the saying goes) looking forward to reading book 2.

Fun space opera. 

The Captain is bad at his job and a danger to the mission, very unfortunate.

Fortunately he dies and we are spared further incompetence.

One of the main characters is a spiteful annoyance and a racist and I was duly annoyed. Everyone else is delightful and entertaining, bonus points for the scientist and their many forms of address.
