I now understand why this series is unfinished. Books 1-3 are veritable masterpieces; sadly, book 4 is a big step down, and book 5 gets better, but nowhere near the quality of books 1-3. If I were George R.R. Martin, I’d also be terrified about releasing books 6 and 7. Books 4 and 5 should have been just one 1,000-page book, trimming a lot of unnecessary fat, and I think the series could be masterfully finished with just one more final book. However, it could be the biggest letdown of the century instead. Sadly (or gladly?), we’ll likely never find out.

"And Robb. Robb who had been more a brother to Theon than any son born of Balon Greyjoy's loins. Murdered at the Red Wedding, butchered by the Freys. I should have been with him. Where was I? I should have died with him."

Oh god, I don't know where to start. My feelings are literally all over the place. This is definitely, DEFINITELY, my favorite asoiaf book. I love it I love it I love it.
ADWD has my favorite chapters of my two favorite characters, Theon and Jon. I literally enjoyed every single pov, esp Bran, Daenerys, and Asha's povs as well.

Now that I am writing this review, I realize that I genuinely can't put my feelings into words, so here are the things I want to scream into the void about:

-THEON INTRO BEING HIM EATING A RAT
-"You have to know your name."
-RICKON BEING ON A CANNIBAL ISLAND AND DAVOS GOING TO GET HIM AND WYMAN MANDERLY AND ROBETT GLOVER PLOTTING TO MAKE HIM LORD OF WINTERFELL???
-Theon sleeping with the dogs.
-Young Griff and Jon Connington?? So many thoughts.
-Tyrion and Penny's whole friendship or whatever you want to call it. Jorah being stuck with them as well.
-Barbrey Dustin and Brandon?? Wanting to feed Ned's bones to the dogs?? Hello???
-Bran being sad when the elk died, my baby <3
-Alys Karstark and Sigorn getting married!!! I ship.
-Every.Single.Thought. Jon had about Arya.
-Theon and Roose's conversations, Roose is so interesting I want to dissect his brain.
-"Jeyne, Jeyne, it rhymes with pain."
-THEON AND JEYNE'S ESCAPE.
-Asha and Alysanne Mormont !!
-THEON REUNITING WITH ASHA.
-Victarion Greyjoy being batshit crazy.
-Ramsay's letter to Jon.
-Every single Jon and Melisandre interaction.
-Val and Jon being so cute. I love Val so much.
-Tormund talking about his dead sons :(
-Quentyn's death?? That was so nasty I felt bad for him.
-Jon being messy as hell talking about Selyse having to get Stannis into her bed before giving him more children lmao??
-BARISTAN SELMY BEING SUCH A FATHER TO DANY AND MISSANDEI I LOVE HIM
-Whatever the hell is wrong with Patchface and why Melisandre gets bad vibes from him.
-Theon and the weirwood trees.
-Brienne coming to take Jaime to Lady Stoneheart??
-Cersei's walk of shame...reading what she thought while it was happening made me sad ngl. I could never hate her.
-“I ride to Winterfell alone, unless…” Jon paused. “…is there any man here who will come stand with me?”
The roar was all he could have hoped for.
-Ghost sensing Jon was in danger :(
-Bran seeing a memory of Ned and thinking he's alive...
-Jon getting killed by his 'brothers', no one touch me.
-“I was tired, Jorah. Weary of war. I wanted to rest, to laugh, to plant trees, see them grow. I am only a young girl” totally fine, totally not crying.

I honestly don't know what I am supposed to do knowing that I will have to indefinitely wait for TWOW release now. I NEED THAT BOOK. SO BAD.

It was good. The thing is though, Martin is mad. This series won't end before he does. Also, while Thrones, Kings, and Swords all kind of ended on a major plot point, or so I remember (which is sort of the point), this one, and its immediate predecessor seem to mostly just continue the story. More than ever before this one seems to end mid-scene.

Looking forward to the next one, but not because I'm under any illusion that it will wrap anything up, or even move anything along.
