Really enjoyed it! (Some slight thematic spoilers) An amazing way to expose how intergenerational trauma and domestic violence can impact someone well into their adult life until they can unpack it all!
Also loved the way the friendships and support systems were explore through the cast of characters.
And very concrete examples of how racism shifts someone’s daily life and existence as a whole.
All wrapped in some intelligent humor and sarcasm 👌

I didn’t expect this book to be what it was. I wasn’t really expecting much, but it turned out to be a really deep, realistic, and slightly depressing story of turmoils in the life of Queenie, who honestly annoys me.
I think there’s barely any character development she remains just as dumb by the end. Also, she’s a horrible friend who’s so stuck in her own problems that she never even thinks to ask about others.
I’m pretty sure Darcy is miserable in her relationship and it's heavily hinted at in her conversations but Queenie never asks.
Maybe had I read this book at a different time I would have rated it differently, but I really wasn’t looking for a real book.
Though I will give it to the author. She created Queenie with so much dimension she felt palpable and real and her story was extremely realistic and understandable. Even though she's annoying you can empathize with her.
