This was a nice little read! I liked the title story the best, the second (Journey with a Lady) the least, and found the third (Nightmare) the strangest of the three. Jackson's writing really shines in short format, and I feel as though this selection is a good one to get you started, if you've never read anything of hers before.

All three stories have that underlying sense of something being off, but you're not entirely certain of what, then at the midpoint the character/s realize something is off, and at the end you get a nice little twist. Jackson's language is very purposeful, and works well even now, almost 70 years later. I will definitely pass this little volume on to a friend, because I really liked it and would love for others to give it a read.

Shirley Jackson will always be one of my favorite short story authors. The Lottery was monumental, and I live for stories such as she wrote. The Missing Girl definitely caught my attention.

Preferito in assoluto "Incubo".

Bello anche "Viaggio con signora", anche se fatico a inserirlo a inserirlo nell'ambito dei racconti dell'orrore.

Ad ogni modo Shirley Jackson รจ fantastica nello scrivere racconti coinvolgenti e mai banali.

I think I loved all 3 stories equally. They were original, had this uncomfortable feeling of impending doom and ended with a knowing wink. If you like Roald Dahl's short stories, you'll enjoy Jackson's, too.
