Interesting premise and some good insights, but the narrator is insufferable. I sometimes got a headache.

what a strong beginning!!!!!! so gay so good.. sentences i could turn over and return to forever but it just turned into too much meandering that just lost me by the end :(

A challenging read (complimentary). Fully 40% of this book sailed over my head but I enjoyed Garreta's precise and generous interrogation of her queer desire—for women and for literature—and how it can be both propulsive and immobilizing.

In many ways this is a failed experiment with one little twist that became something nearly perfect. It's not a book to devour but to savor. My only regret is not reading it more slowly.

This is a complicated little book. The language is literary and I’d be lying if I said I followed everything, but this was enough of a taste of the author that I want to read more, and I enjoyed her voice, the exploration of the themes of memory, desire, the literary world, and hermeneutics (a word I learned from this book). Would recommend to the right reader.

Also the essay where she recognizes love in real time, only in its absence, upon deep reflection, is one of the most touching and gorgeous things I have ever read. The second person narration was quite effective for this and for the overall voice of the book.
