whenever he called her 'girl', it just made him sound like a pedophile

I have become a huge Tessa Bailey fan after reading a few of her books now. I was excited when I found out that she was writing a New Adult book about Willa. Willa is Ginger's sister from Protecting What's His. You do not have to have read Protecting What's His though to understand Unfixable as it is about Willa and can be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed this story, and I liked Willa and Shane a lot. This story brings the heat that one expects with a Tessa Bailey book, but it is a bit toned down compared to her Line of Duty Series.

After a bad breakup that leaves her feeling hurt and against love, Willa Peet enters and wins a photography contest that sends her to Ireland for a month. She isn't looking for friendship, and plans to spend her time taking pictures and moving on. She instantly gets off on the wrong foot with Shane Claymore, the guy sent to pick her up at the airport. Shane's family owns the inn where she is staying and is also a Formula One driver. Both Shane and Willa are struggling with issues, and even though they are both attracted to one another they bicker and argue. But the chemistry between them is strong and the fighting becomes more and more like foreplay. Soon they are starting to get to know each other, and they find out that there is much more to each other than they first expected. When things heat up, both are determined to enjoy each other while they can. As their time together approaches an end though, will they be able to give each other up?

I really liked Shane and the fact that he had an Irish accent didn't hurt! He was sexy and protective, and also a lot deeper than you first think. I liked that he wasn't afraid to say what he was thinking and call Willa out when she needed it. I think he was the perfect match for her willful personality. He brought her out of her comfort zone and really forced her to take a look at her life and things that she would rather try to avoid and run away from. I wasn't sure what his immediate bad reaction to her was though at the airport, and it kind of puzzled me a bit. I didn't understand why they pretty much hated each other at first sight. I also don't remember ever seeing how old Shane was. For some reason I kept wondering about that while I was reading. It was clear that he was older than Willa, but I'm not sure if it was ever said or if I just missed it. Willa was strong and surprisingly sweet. She wasn't overly sweet by nature, but she would do all of these really kind things for others as though she didn't even have to think about it. She wasn't at all like you would expect her character to be at first glance, and I really enjoyed how she was with both Faith and Kitty. I also really loved how fierce she was about defending Shane and trying to make him realize that everything he had been struggling with wasn't his fault. She showed him that he was worth it and that he deserved everything he had worked so hard for. Shane and Willa had a lot of chemistry, but they also developed a great relationship. There is a part where Shane is teaching Willa how to drive a stick shift, and it is hands down my favorite part of the book. They are so cute together, and you could tell just how much these two were starting to feel for one another.

I will admit that while I really enjoyed this book, there were a few things that kept it from being my favorite of Tessa Bailey's books. I felt like Shane and Willa's instant fighting was confusing. I couldn't really figure out why they got off on the wrong foot right away. It just didn't really make sense to me other than that they were both pretty judgmental right off and were making a lot of assumptions they shouldn't have been. I also thought that because it was a NA book, the level of heat was less than normal. There was still a lot of chemistry and there was a good amount of steam, but not what you would normally think of with a Tessa Bailey book. That is entirely a personal opinion though, as I really enjoy Tessa's dirty talking heroes and explicit scenes. But it was still really good even with the more tame scenes and writing. I love her writing style, and she has a really great way of drawing you instantly into her stories and keeping you invested the entire way through. Unfixable was no exception, and Shane and Willa were easy to like and root for. I highly recommend any of Tessa Bailey's books, especially if you haven't ever read anything by her before. But I would definitely recommend Unfixable to fans of the NA genre and those that are looking for a good hate to love story. This one was a quick and easy read, and was a lot of fun to experience.

I was kind of nervous about Willa's age but luckily that wasn't really an issue in terms of her maturity. I really enjoyed this one! Reading Ginger's book next!

Willa Peet and Shane Claymore
Protecting what’s his and protecting what’s theirs was Derek and Gingers books. Willa is Ginger’s little sister!!!
“I thought I was unfixable before now I’m plane crash wreckage” her describing herself after her breakup with Evan and knowing he realized he chose a lemon and someone who can’t be fixed. Willa wants to find herself pre-Evan. She wins a photography contest that lands her in Ireland. Shane is there to take her back to where she’s staying but she puts up a fight and sneaks out and takes a cab there. His sister faith is so excited to meet her. This is when I figured out exactly who willa was, she texted her sister ginger who is married to a cop named Derek and it all clicked into place. Willa snoops and finds out that Shane is a race car driver and he catches her and tells her he plans on selling the place and going back to racing. She meets his mother Kitty who is a little delusional and believes her husband to still be alive who died this year. She has been out exploring and she actually finds herself bonding with con artists, and she mentions how that’s how her sister got them out of Nashville, by stealing 50K from their mom. She can’t sneak past Shane in the bar so she gives him her attitude and he chases her down the hallway and she knows he’s about to kiss her and she tells him she still loves Evan, knowing this should make him back off, and he does. It felt like cheating to her because Evan had done nothing wrong in her head, it’s all her being unfixable. Shane had told her to stay away from Faith because whenever Willa leaves, faith will be attached and hurt. Willa plans to obey this because she didn’t come here to make friends. But the night she’s going to meet the con artist at the bar, faith begs to go and willa can’t stand to tell her no, she originally doesn’t want to let faith inside the dump but faith takes off. Willa keeps an eye on her and they hang out with her con artist friends who had been the band. And then willa feels Shane’s presence. He went in her room and found the address. She tells him not to yank faith away to give them 5 minutes and they’d be outside. After they get back to the inn, faith snaps on Shane and tells him he left because of their over protective father and now he’s become him. Willa stayed in the car and wants to comfort him but he snaps on her and tells her she doesn’t understand since she came 4000 miles over a breakup. And she snaps and makes a comment about her heroine addict mother and no father and Shane chases her. And she waits for a response like even who wanted to know it all but instead he tells her every time she makes him chase her he just wants to pin her down and begs her to let him touch her. But all she can think is if she lets anyone but evan touch her that’s not fair to him because she wasted 2 years of evans life. Evan comes into her room when Kitty does in the morning, but he doesn’t leave when Kitty does. He tells her he wants her and she confesses the truth about Evan that she broke up with him because he was too nice to break up with her and she didn’t fit the mold he wanted her to be. Shane tells her it’s because she really didn’t want to fit into that mold and when she’s ready for a fling he’s here, and then he kisses her and walks out, leaving her wanting more. She’s considering this option with Shane, sex with no strings. And she gets a call from Derek and is worried when he tells her ginger bad the baby a month early and named her dolly and she’s perfect. She feels so guilty that she wasn’t there for Ginger and she cries and Shane holds her and then they kiss and he puts her on the desk and tells her to think faster on them and he leaves her again. The next day he asks her to come in the office when she’s about to go shopping with faith and he turns his laptop and there’s ginger on the screen. She gets to video chat with ginger and dolly and Derek and it meant everything to her. She runs into Shane’s arms afterward and kisses him and tells him yes. He tells her he didn’t do it to sway her decision on that, he did it because he knows how it feels to not be there for something important. Faith tricks her and they end up at the park with the con artists and it appears that faith is on a date. After they go back to the inn and Shane is swamped. Faith goes to help with food and Willa gets behind the bar with Shane. They play a seductive game behind the bar together and after he drags her to the stock room where he eats her out and she’s ready to pleasure him when faith comes back and says they need help behind the bar again. The next day she overhears them saying that Martin the cook died in his sleep, he’s who always brought the fish. Kitty wants to go get it but Faith and Shane tell her they have to stay and clean the bar up so Willa offers to take kitty. Kitty forgets why she’s there and is scared of the bus but they make it. Later wills finds out this is the first time Kitty left the house in 6 months. Shane goes to thank her and she lashes out and he calls her out on that’s why her and her ex boyfriend didn’t work out. She was letting her guard down with Shane and it worried her, she can’t have feelings for him, she’s leaving in 9 days and he’s going to go back to racing. That evening the pub seems different and Orla tells her that Shane is meeting with someone who wants to buy. When Shane comes out faith calls him out on it and lashes out. Wills follows her and comforts her and finds out that Shane hates this place because of the way his dad was and how he always threatened to kick him out, so he kicked himself out. Faith wants to hate him for wanting to sell but she knows he has bad memories with this place. When Willa goes to leave faiths room she runs right into Shane. They talk and he says let’s get out of here. He picks her up in a red sports car, he confessed he doesn’t drive it much. He bought it after his first win when he came home to show his dad and his dad wouldn’t even let him in. Shane takes her to Killiney hill. She explains a picture could never do this place justice. It’s beautiful. And they both agree tonight is the night. She just hopes she can return less broken than she came. They have sex on the hill and stay the night there. In the morning she wakes up and take pictures of the place and of Shane. When they get back Kitty is frantic saying that faith is gone. Willa thinks she might know where she is. She calls patrick and Faith is with Brian. She tells Shane she’s going with him. She expects him to lash out but he stays calm and Faith rewards him by hugging him. Willa is proud of him. When they get back she goes towards her room and knows Shane is following but instead turns around and meets him instead. He teaches her to drive stick shift on the beach. She calls her sister ginger and asks if she ever would have been able to leave Derek and ginger gives a really cute speech about love. Brian comes for dinner at the claymore to meet the family and Shane goes to take a call and comes back to tell willa hes needed for a race, tomorrow. He tells her they need to talk and she tells him there’s nothing to talk about so he Carrie’s her upstairs so that they can really talk. But she puts her armor on and tells him she would have liked another week of fun but that’s all they are. And she breaks her own heart because she’s unfixable. She goes wandering town because she can’t stand to see him go and she needs to be gone before he gets back. Faith is mad at her and tells her that this was his last race and he’s not selling Claymore, he’s coming back. She goes in her room and he printed out the photo he took of her and had zoomed in on her face. Her face of pure love. And he wrote liar on the back. Faith tells her the cab is waiting outside for her. She gets there and has to push through fans to get to him and a nice man puts her on his shoulders and she screams for Shane and then the crowd chimes in and she’s able to get his Attention. He almost gets disqualified to come to her and she tells him to smoke them. He wins and she’s there waiting for him. She tells him she loves him. He says he’ll give it all up and she tells him there’s no reason because she can take pictures anywhere and she’ll go with him. They travel the world for the next month and he’s finally able to take her back home to meet baby dolly. And he sees the love Derek and ginger have for her and how much he loves her. He never could have went without this girl the only chapter we got of Shane’s perspective was the epilogue the rest was through Willa. Starting this book was such a pleasant surprise when I realized I knew the characters. I’m so glad I didn’t read these out of order. I’m so glad Willa got a happy ending and that we got to see more of Derek and ginger as well. The sex between willa and Shane was pretty good too. And the scene being in Dublin was good as well. I think the title unfixable was really good. Willa seems herself unfixable and pushes everyone away but Shane sees through that and doesn’t see anything that needs fixed.

So this was the perfect new adult read. It had romance, tension, but didn't try to be super deep. Yes, Willa and Shane were damaged in their own ways, but I didn't feel like a ton of time was spent convincing me of their damage. It was more like this is part of who they are, and now let's get with the story. I really loved the tension, and that it took so long for things to build. I also thought it was really sweet the way Shane would do things for Willa when she missed her family. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars, since it didn't break the mold but was a fun, easy read.

Okay, so some days I have smart days and some days I do not; when I started this book, I was on a “you are very dumb” day. It took me a while to realize that Willa is Ginger’s sister from Protecting What’s His. I loved Ginger and Willa from the first book and I loved that Tessa Bailey gave Willa her own story and voice. We know about Ginger’s side of growing up with a drug addicted mother and how Ginger had to protect and raise Willa but now we get to see how this all effected Willa.

In her last relationship, Willa realized that she could not be the broken, porcelain doll that her boyfriend wanted to glue back together seamlessly to make her perfect. She was always going to have scars and have that rough around the edges attitude, so she let him go and traveled to Ireland after she wins a photography contest. And this is where it gets good because this is where Shane enters the picture.

Shane and Willa do not get along, at all, during their first few encounters. In fact, their conversations are nothing but sarcastic comebacks and witty remarks. However, through Shane’s sister and mother, Willa gets to know more about his past and why he is running away from the family owned bar. Shane is persistent enough to get Willa to open up for a few seconds and let him see all the darkness that Willa is holding onto and all the light that she could give.

The best thing about this story you ask? It’s the fact that Shane doesn’t want Willa to be perfectly flawless; he likes her just the way she is. READ THIS NOW!

Best quotes: “Shane’s hand curls into a fist at my belly. ‘Take back your words. Tell me I can touch you.’”

I think this is the 23rd Tessa Bailey book I read in the last 3 months? Somewhere around that at least.
While this was one of my favourites and definitely one of her best works I just need to type these words and be done with it. So this goes for all Tessa Bailey books I read this year. So I discovered contemporary adult romance novels this year, meaning I also discovered Tessa Bailey. While I wouldn’t read these books in public or am very proud to have them on my read shelf I can settle for ultimate guilty pleasure. And we all need a bit of that. Some books I loved, some books I hated and some made me ashamed I call myself a feminist. Take from that what you will, read some trigger warnings. I’m ready for this reading chapter of mine to be over. Until hook, line and sinker comes out in March…

The set-up was more than a little contrived (Willa wins a photo contest which sends her to Ireland to stay in the pub owned by Shane, the hero), but the book on the whole was pretty fun. Bailey writes really engaging characters, and she did really well with Willa - for once we have a heroine who is upset by the end of a relationship which she ended, and whose fear of intimacy is realistic and realistically written. The sex scenes felt a little out-of-whack - Bailey always seems to write very alpha-dominant-male sex scenes and that didn't seem to fit here - but over all, a nice read.
