4.5

It’s really 4.5 only because I found some parts difficult to visualize and that’s important to me in a book. That said, this is a novel story and it’s difficult to describe or explain in the first place. It is a very unique, beautiful read.

never have I so thoroughly not had any idea what was going on in a book but enjoyed it anyway? I think that I liked this book, and that shouldn’t be a question but it is. i’ll have to reread it while slightly understanding what’s going on a bit more to pass final judgement

The book is almost entirely dedicated to the exchange of letters between the two main characters to demonstrate their developing the relationship. This meets the objective for the romance part of the book, but at the sacrifice of overall context.

The portions between the letters were difficult to follow, in my opinion. This is the part where the “context” was intended to be defined. I find it unclear why the two organizations are in conflict with one another. This is problematic, as the bedrock of the relationship between the main characters is supposed to be built upon that conflict. The concept of “losing” the time war, as the title of the book suggests, loses meaning when the reader can’t specifically state what “winning” the time war means.

The mechanics of time travel is not clearly defined, which actually didn’t detract too much from the book.
