Here’s a thought: don’t write historical fiction if you’re just going to gloss over the history part.

This book was so bad. Calling it a thriller is such a stretch. You spent the first half of the book worrying about Martin only for him to
die
in the most convenient way possible after returning to the story for about 10 pages?? Half the half baked characters are abandoned part way through the book and the ending goes in a completely different direction that literally doesn’t matter to the premise. The entire Elizabeth story has nothing to do with Nancy’s story and each character should have been their own stand alone books vs trying to combine them.

Truly this was a waste to read!

To be honest I quite liked this story and there two parallels, it was very entertaining read. Some bits of the book were confusing and a little bit hard to follow but after a while I got it and it was an easy read. I love the history that they told of tall chimneys, it was interesting and memorizing throughout the whole book. I can see when some people find this book boring, but to be honest I found this book so interesting. The World War 2 story was so sad and the fact that her son came back even though she thought that her son was gone, was a turn I was not expecting, it was sad how he turned out like his dad because of the War that went on and that he participated in. When she admitted what happened the night of the murder was crazy, and the fact that the jury did not find her guilty was even crazier. I think the audiobook made this better and I felt more interested to read it. This book was strange and twisty but also very entertaining. I know some people don't like World War 2 fictions but I really enjoyed this one and how the story was told. I don't think I would classify this as a thriller maybe a mystery but not a thriller. Also the whole trial was also crazy and interesting. Her step brother was crazy and how could you be in love with your step sister, that's just gross. This book was entertaining and a great listen, I might try and pick up more books by this author in the future.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the advance copy to review.

This book did not go anywhere I thought it would. I didn't realise it was in part a historical drama set during WW2.

The writing is great and easy to read. It's set in dual times from the present to during the war. I really liked the main characters from both time periods Nancy and Elizabeth. They both shared a lot of commonality.

If you like a dual time book based on WW2 then this is for you.

Sadly it wasn't at all what I expected and don't feel that the blurb really explains what the story will be based upon as I was expecting a thrilling/suspense book. 3.5 stars based on this.
