I liked the storyline of the first book better, but it was still enjoyable.

I received an ARC for an honest review. I love me some LMR. I think I’ve loved her since the beginning of time. That said, I’m not loving this series too much. I enjoyed the opening tension and had great hope for Masquerade, but “things” poked me in the eye. This is the first LMR novel I skimmed the finish because I didn’t really care.
Nothing is wrong with the prose, but the billionaire-iness of it read as gratuitous. I liked that she aged Anya and Anya did have a reasonable motive. There were some LMR killer phrases I highlighted, but not enough to make the characters interesting to me. The tension broke for me around the logistics of action. Which surprised me as she’s usually very careful with her staging.
I’m also not loving the current covers for these series.
I actually stopped reading during the last love scene. I know.
This didn’t warrant a one star because I enjoyed the first half up until the action hit and then I WTF’d the heck out of... well, I can’t remember my spoiler code, so I’ll drop off there.

It was good to read one of Lisa Marie Rice's latest. Decent plot and storyline. The only real conflict was resolving the kidnapping. Everything else, including the ten-year delayed confrontation was wrapped up quickly.
Not sure why there was so little dialogue. I don't recall if the author's previous books were like that as well but it really stands out in this story. Looking forward to the rest of this series.
