This book was amazing! I am always looking for books related to my faith, so when I heard about it, I started reading it right away. At first, I read the chapters that appeared in serialized form every couple of weeks in Meridian magazine, but I got so into the book that I could not wait to read more, so I purchased it from Amazon. It really made me think about what Abinadi and those around him might have gone through, as well as what other prophets and their families go through. I admired him and the faith he had. I got so into the book that I even cried when he died! I highly recommend this book.

I had a hard time with this book at first. It was apparent from the beginning "love sick" plot that this novel would weigh much more heavily on the fiction than I expected. However, it was well done and I appreciate the research the author put into Mesoamerica and the culture of that era. I also loved watching Alma's character develop and am excited to read his story.

I loved the way the author showed us how she sees Abinadi as a young man, with everything to lose for preaching the gospel. I think it is a very well planned out book,and very close to the scriptural record. Can't wait to read the next in the series!

I appreciated that this book made me think about people in the scriptures as real people with feelings and families.

I found the book easy to read and enjoyed that it moved right along.

I did get a bit tired of the marriage the author made up for Abinadi. It seemed a bit contrived. I have a hard time believing that he would have married the daughter of one of the wicked high priests, a high priest who was a major character in not only the novel, but also the scriptural account. Would they really have known each other and gotten together?

That said, I think that anyone would enjoy the book, including people who have not read The Book of Mormon account of Abinadi. In fact they might enjoy it more, since they wouldn't bring any preconceived ideas about him.

While many of the characters in this story are fictional, it really got me thinking about the prophet Abinadi and the sacrifices he made to preach the truth. The author points out that Abinadi's age is not known, and she chose to portray Abindai as a much younger man than we usually envision him (based on well-known church paintings). Overall, I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook and thought it was a wonderful way to bring some of the stories in The Book of Mormon to life.

I've always loved the story of Abinadi.

How he never denied his testimony, even when threatened with death.

I've always been inspired by his story and his example. So when I found this book, I was super excited to read it. And this book did not disappoint me. It was really well done. Even though I knew what would happen to Abinadi, I really enjoyed hearing the story about Raquel and her family. I found I couldn't put the book down, even though I should've been studying for midterms. But alas, I couldn't put the book down until I'd finished it.

Granted I felt like it moved a little too quickly for my taste, but all in all it was a quick and enjoyable read.

It appears that I'm in the minority with this book. I thought it was okay. I struggled with a few things in this book. The story of Abinadi has always had special meaning to me, so maybe I am a little more biased because of that. I felt like I was being pushed into believing how good or how bad people were, forced to feel the way the author wanted me to feel about things that people did. I prefer to read the story and come to my own decision about a person's character and I felt I couldn't do that with this story.

I did like her portrayal of Abinadi as a younger man and I liked Raquel and the strength she showed.
