Becky Chambers is definitely one of my favorite authors. The beginning of this book felt a bit slow, but I loved the journey and dual perspectives.

Cozy sci fi at its best. I laughed, I cried, I contemplated humanity.

“ ‘…I love learning. I love history. But there’s history in everything. Every building, everybody you talk to. It’s not limited to libraries and museums. I think people who spend their lives in school forget that sometimes.’ “
🔀 non-linear timeline
👥POV: multiple POV
🐎 Pace: medium
💭 The story follows immediately after the end of the first book and flashes back in time.
What I loved:
- Revisit some characters from the first book along with some new faves as well
- Gender fluid rep
- Ethics of AI/sentient machines
- Found family
- Lovable, diverse characters
What I wasn’t a fan of
- I wasn’t a fan of how much slower pacing than one storyline had been than the other
I really enjoyed this! I found the questions that this raised regarding what it means to be a person to be fascinating especially in the time of AI. This was an unexpected follow up to book 1 and can’t wait for book 3!
⚠️ animal hunting, violence
