This one, in contrast to the first, was more plot focused and complicated. The last chapter made me cry, and it's still the Wayfarers even though it's not on the Wayfarer

I think it's hard for sequels to live up to the premise of the first novel, but A Closed and Common Orbit just blew The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet out of the water for me. And that is saying something because I liked that book quite a lot. It's a book about personhood and family and battling the abusive systems that make us with the power of community and the family that we choose. It's about tackling our biases about ourselves and others. It's about healing from the grief that comes when your life gets radically changed in a way beyond your control (I read Sidra's struggle to adapt to being in a body very analogous to learning to adapt to my own disabilities) that disconnects you from your body and personhood. And it's just a book with empathy and kindness at its core. A beautiful read.

My opinion on AI is always dependent on the universe it's in, but this one knocked it out of the park. It's such a beautiful start about found family and figuring out who you are and what you want and need.

Loved this book, it had the perfect level of continuation for a sequel, while also exploring new characters and elements of the world. Really looking forward to reading more of this series and getting more expansion

this book is genuinely so good. i was kind of hesitant about the book following minor characters from the long way to a small angry planet instead of the wayfarer crew, but i Really loved following sidra & pepper, and i think it was a great choice. i also really loved having young pepper’s perspective, and the contrast between the two main storylines was really interesting
