It was harder to read than Mr. Prenumbra's Bookshop. Maybe the robot factor was farther to my little knowledge than the secret cult-ish book club? It was great nonetheless. I love how the starter was used to show human greed. It was a fascinating read and I'll love to read more of Robin Sloan's curious combination of modern and old-school.

The most perfect little book for this moment in time - a lovely uplifting story about slightly magical sourdough starters and robot arms. The audiobook has snippets of singing that are referred to in the text, which is awesome.

Hilarious and thought provoking. The last minute change in point of view was distracting. I'd give his other book a try.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. All of it, even (maybe especially) the weird parts. The best thing about reading this, however, is learning that the Lois Club is a real thing. I am better off for knowing that chapters of the Lois Club exist almost everywhere. Three cheers for Lois(es)!

In theory, it should be a perfect book for me. I love magical realism, I like baking, I love sourdough starters, I work a corporate tech job, I want to do what I love and not what makes me the most money.

However, the book throws in all the tension in the last 20 pages and nothing happens throughout. There are no stakes; she succeeds - cool she's selling bread at a market, she fails - oh well, she has a high paying job to fall back on.

The emails between Beo and Lois were too one sided. I did not care at all about his story. I didn't care where he was and his music or his brother. Not one bit. That's a real shame.
