4.5✨ I devoured this book!
"For beneath Solar's eggs lay something that had been all but illegal in the Kingdom of Ashwood for a hundred years - something you could only own if you belonged to a noble house or attended the royal court as an adviser to the king."
Strongly written first book in a YA fantasy series that is predicted to be epic! Magic, mystery, found family, betrayal, politics, quests...

I was lucky enough to read this book as an ARC, so thank you to the author for that opportunity!
Witchcraft and Fury is a strong and engaging debut that blends emotional depth with immersive world-building. The story follows a determined young FMC from a small-town background who is caring for a sick mother and younger brother, drawn into the world of magic after unexpectedly casting a spell from a foreign, unstamped spellbook.
At a magical encampment, she meets a diverse group of fellow pupils, each with unique strengths, rivalries, and backstories. Through trials, missions, and lessons in weaponry, potions, and natural magic, both friendships and tensions develop, with their dynamic adding complexity without relying on cliché.
The third-person narrative, though a shift from the first-person style I usually read, is vivid and well-paced. The writing stands out for its clear structure and beautifully described settings.
This is an enjoyable and confident debut, ending with the promise of more to come. Perfect for readers who enjoy character-driven fantasy with heart and atmosphere.

Firstly, thank you to Theo and his team for letting me be an ARC reader. It’s my first ARC and I really did enjoy reading it.
Solar is a stubborn, feisty, and sneaky 17 year old who’s trying to survive in a world where her class and gender are used against her. Even with all that, she ends up making friends with people she didn’t expect, and there’s even a bit of romance thrown in without the book fully focusing on it and turning it into a romantasy. The book is fast-paced and full of adventure, with betrayal, acceptance, and everything you want in a YA fantasy.
It’s a great read for teens and young adults who are just getting into fantasy. I’m a total sucker for fantasy books, and the fact that it’s a medieval YA fantasy is a bonus. I’ve never read a magic-based book where they train in encampments like Solar and her group do, so that was a nice change.
I do wish it was a bit longer, just so some parts could be expanded and the world-building could go a bit deeper. But overall, I really enjoyed it and I’m excited for book two!

Witchcraft and Fury was fast-paced and had loveable characters, that I can’t wait to come back to. The found-family, familiar tropes, and closure at the end just felt like a warm hug to me.
I can’t wait for the next book to learn more about the characters and the magic!

An enjoyable fantasy, reminded me of the Belgariad series by David Eddings. I loved the characters, the way they evolved during their training and trials. There are strong themes around familial relationships, personal growth and vengeance. A very impressive book.

A tale following a determined young FMC from a lowly commoner background where she's finding ways to look after her younger brother, and sickly mother. Using any means necessary to make sure there is food available, and stealing then selling things she can. One day she finds a book she wishes to sell which leads her to a new mentor and encampment after she unexpectedly performs a spell on a bully.
She gets brought under the care of a renowned wizard, where she faces a diverse group of people to learn with and from, she faces prejudice while fighting to prove herself before facing a harsh betrayal from someone she came to care for.
Solar has to find herself and work with the members of her encampment to improve her magic and route out those keeping secrets and plotting against the king.
This is an immersive story with diverse and loveable characters, intriguing challenges and an uncertain future while she strives to find her father.
It feels a little slow sometimes but in being so has create such a detailed visual, and you can follow along with every step.
I am looking forward to the next book following the cliffhanger we are left with, I want to see how the characters continue to develop especially Bear, Solar & Cal.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book as an ARC reader! One to add to my bookshelf.
