Great debut from a new author!

I thoroughly enjoyed this take on the Cinderella story. I especially appreciated the wit and intelligence of the two main characters. This was a four star and not a five because I was at times frustrated by the lack of communication between our two lives (big misunderstanding that would have been prevented by a simple conversation).

Unrelated to the rating, but I found it odd: I felt like the author laid the groundwork for a future book with a particular male and female character, then in the epilogue suggested a set up with a different female character. It made for a strange ending.

I LOVED this book. The banter between Julia and Gregory is funny and the chemistry between them is sizzling. I found Gregory's fan club hilarious and appreciated Julia's reaction. I also love that Julia and her step-sister have a close and loving relationship versus the contentious one most often portrayed in Cinderella-esque stories. Watching her sister grow alongside Julia and Gregory's relationship was a satisfying secondary story arc. Gregory falls first which is also a great story choice (IMHO) and his never wavering support of his bride is admirable. As a reader, you can feel their reluctance to separate and want to yell at them as they continue to fail to voice that reluctance to each other. 4.5 stars, rounded to 5.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a complimentary ARC of this book. The opinions herein are entirely my own.

I am giving this book two stars because the characters had chemistry and witty banter. Other then that it was ridiculous. When a group of married women show up at the duke's house to tell his wife they are in mourning because he is so great in bed and they won't get to sleep with him again, I lost all sense of enjoyment.

Out of the Cinderella stories I have read recently this one the characters have the sweetest chemistry and I wish the author had explored it more through the pages, don’t get me wrong she does and it’s cute however I think that a couple of scenes gone differently it would’ve served better making the story richer on details.

To save a rakish duke from being pursued by wanton wives and jealous husbands, a spinster living under the tyranny of her stepmother offers to marry him.

I absolutely adored this author's voice and writing style. The book is a bit of a romp, the tone witty without ever descending into snark. The banter is brilliant, the characters clever and good-hearted. Julia and Gregory are a perfect match, with plenty of heat and real respect between them.

IMO, there's not enough conflict here for a novel-length book. This would have worked better as a novella. It got tedious with both of them wanting each other but being unwilling to admit it. I stopped reading at the 50% mark. Nevertheless, I'm glad to have read the first half. I loved the author's voice and look forward to future works.
