I really enjoyed this book, as much on this read as I did the first time. It's fun and adventurous, with just enough drama.

There are multiple scenes where a city has been attacked or even wiped out by an army, including one somewhat graphic description of an infant that had been killed. A character is tortured, physically and emotionally, and there are some descriptions of that and some brief mentions of child abuse. One large battle scene, with descriptions of violence and some gore.

Okay listen. I first read this book when I was about 10 years old and it broke open my mind to the world of epic fantasy. I also see the bad editing, predictable plotting, and gender role issues but it's such a comforting nostalgic read so take my totally biased high rating and frequent rereads with a grain of salt.
