This was a beautiful coming of age fantasy about a boy and his dragon, or a dragon and her boy. I have read and enjoyed the LOTR series multiple times, and this book was very similar in many ways: think epic journey, father figure mentor, dwarves, elves, dragons, demonic bad folk, magic, and battles. But it was also different in many ways, so don’t let that deter you!

I loved the bond between Eragon and Saphira. Their friendship and love for one another was beautiful to read. I also really liked Paolini’s descriptions of Saphira—how she grew and changed throughout the book. How strong and beautiful she was.

This was a wonderful fantasy novel and I cannot wait to continue reading the series. A great book for anyone looking to dip their toes into fantasy for the first time, or for seasoned old people like myself who love getting lost in a good story.

Books are my friends, my companions. They make me laugh and cry and find meaning in life.

Something to listen to while reading this ♥

Eragon is one of these classic fantasy stories that I really needed to read, and I have to admit that I did not at all regret it, as it had tons of things I usually adore in books:

♦ Impressive, massive world building, full of creative names, tongues, creatures and spells. I really like it when everything is detailed in fantasy stories, because it can give so much insight to the reader.
♦ The road trip/adventure plot. Eragon has to travel through mountains, deserts, valleys and forests, in an impossible mission to avenge the death of the only family he had left. Along with him, the reader journeys through the same paths, leaving the world to curl around them like a dragon's tail, pulling them into the story.
♦ Another thing I absolutely loved was the characters. Eragon himself was a very interesting character, fleshed out and likeable as a protagonist. Sapphira was my absolute favorite, as she was strong and clever and compassionate and thought and acted like a human. I read some observations on the fact that it was annoying that not many women were included in this book, and I have to agree, but the women that started to appear, such as Nasuada and Arya both seem very strong and kick-ass, so I won't complain ♥
♦ I have to mention the fact that in this story, we see men cry or admit defeat, and there are talks on loss, revenge, weakness, trauma and despair, in a very realistic and honest way. It was a huge plus for me, how everything was shaped through these emotions, because it is usually not something we see a lot, especially in older fantasy works such as this.
♦ Furthermore, the writing was really good in terms of descriptions of places, and I liked how creative the history of everything was, as well as how the all Dragon Rider tales were revived through Eragon's fate. It wasn't very special in terms of other things, but for a fantasy story, I think it was smooth and descriptive, and combined with a quick, fast paced plot, it was a match made in heaven.
♦ Last but not least, the magic system was really cool, and I really liked the role language and the understanding of it played in the shaping of this world's magic. I found it to be very creative and unique, as well as the gedwey ignasia and the different relationships and alliances between humans, elves and dwarves.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading Eragon, and it got me in such a strong high fantasy mood at some point. I am very excited to read the rest and see more of this world and story ♥ Until the next review, keep being your unique and wonderful selves and stay strong and safe ♥

A very a classic fantasy novel! Although it's somewhat slow in places, Eragon does a great job of displaying a journey from start to finish, not just a physical, literal one, but one of the mind of a young boy developing into an adult warrior

So I actually read this first when I was younger, maybe when I was 10 or 11? And I thought it was really cool, I loved the dragons and the magic and everything. I decided to re-read it, and then read the rest of the series sometime this year, and uh. It definitely did not hold up at all, lol.

Simply put, the book is bad. Like, really bad. The writing is tedious, the characters and their interactions with one another are flat, and the story dragged for forever. The "climax" was a blur of a battle scene, and that was it. I didn't care for any of the characters, even when the author was trying so hard to make the reader sympathize with them.

And my goodness, the use of the traditional fantasy tropes was....annoying....to say the least.
