"It amazes me what humans can do, even when streams are flowing down their faces and they stagger on, coughing and searching, and finding."

Wow. That was a life-changing book. That was so sad. I am so glad that I read it, though. This is one of those books that is becoming a modern classic and everyone knows about it. And it definitely deserves that classic status. What a read. What a sad yet beautiful story. I love this book. But I'll probably never read it again.

Finally knocked this one off the old TBR. It went by pretty quickly for the length; however, I still think it was about a hundred pages too long. Despite the gravity of the situation in which our thief Liesel finds herself, this is a cozy book in the sense that almost all the characters, even the cranky ones, are lovable, even cute. The real genius of this story is the quirky mundanity of the plot as more sinister things transpire just out of view. There are of course several devastating moments where the horror of Nazi Germany catches up to our characters, ultimately making this a very emotional read. Though I didn’t end up rating this as highly as I expected, I still think it’s a wonderful book and I’m glad I finally read it.

wow um.. OUCH.

i sobbed so uncontrollably i don’t even think i’m in the headspace for writing a review right now so that isn’t going to happen.

however i would like to dedicate my 50th book of the year to this masterpiece. the pain was insufferable.

okay i’m back! this book was a masterpiece. it didn’t have to absolutely destroy my heart the way it did but i still love it. the book being written by death was so chef’s kiss. but truly you haven’t experienced a heart breaking book until you read this one.

it will rip you apart. even if you don’t read historical fiction (which i don’t) it doesn’t matter. you will enjoy this book because this book is absolute art.

this book is so devastatingly beautiful. there are some slower parts but you get to learn so much more about the characters and begin to fall in love with them.

July was a very busy month for me, and, as a result, I wasn’t able to read as often as I would’ve liked. It took me nearly two weeks to read this book, and, usually, when I go days between reading sessions, it’s hard for me to get back into the story. That was not the case for this book! Although it was slower-paced, the writing style, the characters, and the narrator kept me invested.

I smiled, I thought, and I cried…a lot.

I really enjoyed many things about this book, but especially Liesel’s healthy relationships, especially with Hans and Max.
