I have read this at least three times and I've bought it for so many people and I've recommended it more than I can count. It is so touching and powerful, it pulls on every string you have. This book made me laugh, bawl my eyes out, made me angry, broke my heart, set it racing, and makes me want to throw it across the room or into a river. I'd read it a million times more though. One of those books that you would give anything to get to experience reading it for the first time again. I first read this book at LEAST ten years ago and I can't express how much I feel it has shaped me.

Saved from mediocrity by the ending.

This book made me cry multiple times. I was CONVINCED that Max was going to die and I'm happy that my favorite character lived for once. The prose was so gorgeous and I loved that it was narrated by Death.

I don't think I've ever wept as much as I've finished a book. Dear lord. It's just so terribly powerful and wonderful.
