This felt like an elevated fanfic to please the audience after the success of the original trilogy with the clear mission of immediately adapting it into a movie, but I'm not complaining! I thought it was great - not as good as the original trilogy but lightyears ahead of the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, with plenty of callbacks and tie-ins. It was fun to see how the story unfolded when you already know how it ends.

This book gave me so much nostalgia from reading the original trilogy. I throughly enjoyed this read, but boy oh boy did the author make each death more gut-wrenching than the last.

miss suzanne collins, you have done it again. my god i didn’t think you could hurt me any more than you already had but here i am absolutely speechless and SICKENED. 

the attention to all the tiny details from her previous books is amazing - everything ties together so well, and in a way that’s well-thought-out too. every time something was mentioned, be it minor like katniss’ father, or major like lucy gray herself, it felt like an easter egg! is this what it feels like to read epic fantasy series and spot familiar characters along the way? 

reading this book has further terrified me for the state of the world…. as much as i love ms collins and her work, i hope that she’ll never have another hunger games installation to write. it’s a silly hope to have but god.

I wish I could un-read this book 🙅🏽‍♀️ I guess my tolerance for child death, gore, and trauma is just lower than the masses. This book made me feel bad. And not in a dystopian “the world could be this evil” kind of way but in a why would anyone write something this upsetting way. 

I was tricked into thinking there could be a single positive ray of light in this story so I read through to the end. Apparently that was too much to ask for. I didn’t want to read about people dying in such graphic, horrifying ways. I know I know- it’s the Hunger Games, what did I think would happen. But the level of violence in this book is far beyond the rest of the series. And for what? To give us all nightmares? Mission accomplished!
