At times I felt the book became almost too much fan service, finding answers and tie-ins for everything, and relying heavily on already established characters. I think it wouldn’t have been as impactful if not for the last bit of the book, but Collins really excels at making extremely complex things like guilt, grief and PTSD accessible enough for young readers to understand with out simplifying them.

If you're looking to do a chronological order re-read, save the epilogue until after you've re-read the original trilogy. Trust me on this one. It will hurt more but I think that's the intended experience.

SC ramps up the explicit violence and gore in this one, which given the current political climate feels especially significant. However, the format of ‘the games’, particularly in the prequels where we know who survives, is beginning to feel a little stale. I think overall it’s still a must-read for fans of the original trilogy, but personally I much preferred TBOSAS!
