A must read if you like the series. The theme is propaganda and here we see how the Capitol is able to manipulate anything to their advantage.

I'll be returning to the book, soon. For now, I'm aching to re-read the whole saga (the main trilogy, along with Ballad and then this book once more).
I don't know if I have enough literary knowledge to know what would make a book perfect, but to me, in my heart, this is a five star read because it enthralled me in a way few things have done these last years. Ballad managed to do so for the most part, but this just brought me back to my voracious reader days, back to reading the original books for the first time, blazing through them one after the other, cooped up in my grandma's room, or my bed, or wherever I could sit down and read.
I think the overall message is pretty explicitly stated, and the reminder at the end of maybe not seeing the change yourself but /being/ part of it is very important. Specially right now.
I really felt for haymitch, and all along I just remembered the last things said by Hermes in hadestown, about returning to a story even when you know the way it ends. I don't know, it doesn't have that much to do with anything guess, but it just was in my head a lot.
I literally just finished the book and need time to really gather my thoughts. I love the explanations we got for some things, and the epilogue devastated me.
Anyway, great book, I read it on my kobo but will be definitely buying it in hardcover, if possible. Maybe in Spanish... Maybe I'll re-read it translated.

This was probably my favorite of the Hunger Games books. It was a blend of nostalgia and horror that was the missing piece of this series. Devastation in nearly every chapter made it feel like more than a YA book.

Loved it in the sense that it was great to learn Haymitch's origin story, to see how familiar characters entered the story and how it all ties in together

Hated it in the sense that it gave me emotional damage that I fear I might not recover from

Suzanne you didn't need to go that hard with the details of the Capitol's cruelty, I'm already fighting for my life out there I don't need fictional horrors seared into my brain on top of the regular ones 😭

I'm sure I missed some details in the story but i don't think I'll be strong enough mentally to re read for a good while 🫠
