I actually screamed of excitement when I FINALLY got to check this book out. I’ve had it on hold since before it was released. It was fantastic. It was devastating, but so so well done. I loved the parallels to the original series as well as bosas, it was wonderful. I can’t wait to here the new songs with actual melodies :))

no lie i have waited YEARS for this book and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. everything we knew about haymitch from the original trilogy stands true AND MORE. the themes of propoganda and implicit submission were STRONG, and the dehumanization of district folks seen in the rest of the series was so obvious and painful in haymitch’s pov. you know about every inevitable death in this since it’s a prequel story we knew the short version of- but they are no less painful. suzanne might secure favorite author of my life with this (if she didn’t have it already)
pry this book out of my cold dead hands.

Even though you know how much of it is going to end, I was engrossed with learning how Haymitch became the character we got to know in Katniss' story. It felt very true to who he was, and also felt very similar to the original Hunger Games books. It was truly difficult to put down, and saying I "enjoyed" it wasn't the right words, because it is difficult to read the horrors, but feels like a story that needs to be told.
