devastating. a bit heavy-handed on the message of it all but given the state of media literacy right now i forgive that.

I don't think anyone could /make/ Collins write a new Hunger Games book, no matter how popular they are, how well they sell, or how many movies they churn out. But I can't imagine the rage and devastation that she might feel as readers have clamored for more of the Hunger Games world since the original trilogy concluded in 2010 and the movies in 2014, and society has turned into what it has. I mean, I can feel some of it in this book, but I think that's only a fraction.

Great book. Very timely, absolutely devastating.

A very important read, specially these days. Beautifully written, with so many references and parallels to the rest of the series, very sad but also cathartic... just a masterpiece.

Haymitch's Games— while touched upon in Collins' "Catching Fire"— is far more haunting when laid out this way, without all the missing details. Haymitch becoming the man we meet in "The Hunger Games" and onward is a heartwrencing transition to observe. In just a few pages, Haymitch shot to the top of my favorite characters list. Each character is so well written and well-rounded.

Wow, you just know Snow HATES to see a tribute from District 12 coming. This book clearly explains why Hamish is the way he is in the subsequent books. The trauma and abuse that he experienced, how do you get over something like that, the PTSD has to be excruciating. I did enjoy getting to hear more about Beetee and Wiress’s back stories.  I need more of these books, especially Finnick and the others from the 75th Hunger Games.
