This was so painful. Seeing Haymitch’s transformation to this kid in love to the Haymitch we meet in THG was devastating. Say it with me everybody, Fuck Snow! Death to that loser!!

This book emotionally destroyed me and left me reeling. Suzanne Collins truly wrote a grown-up book for those of us who read her original trilogy as kids. The commentary on power structures, oppression and the erasure of past resistance is so nuanced and pointed. Plus there is so much tragedy in this book. It was devastating to learn how Haymitch came to be the broken man he is in the original books. After I finished this I just sat and stared blankly at the wall for several minutes.

Probably not my favorite book from The Hunger Games universe but still absolutely devastating, a great read, poignant, and full of deeper meaning and love and rebellion and poetry.
