Very well written! It really puts you in the story, which is just emotionally devastating (in the best way).

haymitch my beloved </3.

i do love the insight into haymitch’s games, especially with haymitch being one of my favourite characters from the og trilogy. the book did a lot of good things, with many loveable characters and of course- in true suzanne collins style- plenty of well thought out political commentary.

with that being said there were quite a few points in the story where i felt a bit confused or that her writing was potentially a bit lazy.
specifically when the gamemakers were in the arena and the tributes killed them then maysilee got upset at haymitch for not doing so? (i will defend haymitch on this because i would be just as confused and shocked if i saw them randomly mopping in the arena???). i had to read that section several times over to understand what was happening and still feel as though it wasn’t helpful to the plot to add it.

overall, i did really enjoy the book though i wish some parts were written more clearly…. or not included at all…

Was excited to read about Haymitch’s experience in the Hunger Games and although that is the main plot, I was hoping that the story would include something more and really dive deep into Haymitch’s origin story and explain why he ended up the way he did and that just didn’t really happen… well written but a disappointing ending.
