Suzanne has done it again. However bad I thought Haymitch’s story could be, oh how it was so much worse. Haymitch was such a loverboy, just like his boy Peeta. And Katniss was exactly like him, but luckier. Haymitch and his continuous flock, his promises, his family. Oh how he kept them all. Even when he lost them. After all, the snow may fall, but the sun also rises

“She’s not an easy person; she’s like me, Peeta always says. But she was smarter than me, or luckier. She’s the one who finally kept the sun from rising.”

Both an entertaining story and a powerful treatise on propaganda and social control. Suzanne Collins once again writes an amazing tale.

Wow. This book was so interesting and wild. But that being said, the ending really did save the book. Other than the last 100 pages, the book is filled with plot holes, inconsistencies and contradictions in regards to the main series.
I also think that most of the characters that made cameos from the main series felt very pointless and also very annoying. Especially Effie Trinket. She feels like a whole  different person in this book than she did in the main series. She acts so differently it felt very strange.
But that being said, I loved the new characters introduced in this book I thought they were so interesting and I loved Maysille Donner with all my heart.
But,  If the ending of this good wasn’t as good as it was my rating for this book would not have been this high, the ending was honestly the best part of the book.
Pretty fun read though! Would recommend.
3.5/5 stars

This is a fantastic prequel to the original Hunger Games Trilogy. Given its protagonist is Haymitch, the connections to the original books are very explicit. It’s basically the generation of Katniss’ parents with a few that are slightly older. This book even makes the other prequel “A Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” a better book in retrospect. FANTASTIC

I literally... this is my absolute favorite book in the series. Everything I wanted it to be. No notes. The epilogue had me sobbing.
