A little simplistic in its writing style but Collin’s does a great job of expanding upon the existing lore of the Hunger Games and surrounding context. I wish she did with this book what she did with BoSaS—that is, take a more mature/complex route with the story. There are some repetitive/uninspired bits but overall this was a worthwhile read with some standout moments of love, social commentary, and found family.

Sunrise on the Reaping was really good! Suzanne Collins was masterful. She did an amazing job of tying in past characters and showing just how we got to where we were in Katniss' games. It was really well done, with great character development and plot. Especially if she mapped it all out in between the first prequel and the original books. The things Hamich did in the original books and his actions in this book were tied together beautifully. The same with many other side characters. It is a sad book, which is to be expected because we know how Hamich starts the first original Hunger Games, but the epilogue delivered a great little hopeful snippet and a wrapped up a good way.

The best in the series so far. Sunrise on the Reaping adds so much to the world of the Hunger Games. The lore is deep and the story is captivating and devastating.

amazing. absolutely traumatizing. the pacing of the games section is rather quick (understandably, i know collins doesn’t love to spend time detailing gorey deaths), but otherwise a fantastic read. anyone wanting to read this book, put it down after “happy birthday, haymitch!”

Literally loved this franchise and Suzanne Collins has this talent for weaving these characters together beautifully. Will update with more thoughts as I collect myself.
