This ones my favorite. Terrible emotional experience. Will haunt me forever.
The themes of this one!!! The way the tension and dynamics change with them being groups instead of pairs!!! The tender heartedness!!! The love was there!!! It didnt change the outcome, but the love was there!!!

3 stars and I'm being generous.
Literally the most boring first half of a book ever, who cares about anyone, who cares about Lenore Dove, like SHUT UP about your “love” or your “girl” already, Haymitch!
Too many kids in the Games that you literally can't keep track of names—heck, Haymitch even said he couldn't keep track of them, so why should the reader? So that resulted in a lot of unemotional goodbyes and deaths. The book literally sets you up for the mentality of "who cares about the other kids, you only need to care about District 12's kids", which really felt sooo against the OG trilogy's point—that each District suffers loss—and so I think this book was really just dumb and missed the point.
Maysilee was literally the best character, and honestly, I get that this is Haymitch's book, but it would've been better from her POV, or at least it would've saved Haymitch's boring plot by maybe going dual-POV with her.
The only parts I felt were fun and entertaining were inside the arena and all the fighting, which made me feel terrible because how does that make me any better than the Capitol people? But anyway, if you set up the book with a lack of introduction to the other characters, this is the result: an emotionless and disconnected reader. And I'm disappointed with how unenthusiastic I was to seeing OG trilogy victors in this book. I literally would've been so excited to see them if their appearances were hyped up more. But nope.
Also, all the songs were SO STUPID pls remove all of them, thanks sooo much

I did not enjoy this book. I felt that the author tried to connect a lot of characters together and created relationships that did not make sense, keeping in mind the original trilogy. I was not able to feel attachment to any of the characters and every death attached to Haymich in the arena kept to the same Rue formula. Of course this isn’t my story so I can only say so much, but I wish there was a different perspective other than a victors’, this one didn’t show me anything new besides literal commentary about propaganda and the media.
