The story did absolutely nothing for me and felt a bit fragmented at times. Part of this is because I am just now beginning to delve into DC Comics and largely unfamiliar with the universe; but anything that sells itself as an issue number 1 or voume 1 should probably make itself a bit more accessible to new readers. Story-wise, this installment of The Flash seems to take for granted that you were already familiar with the character and his world, particularly when it comes to the supporting cast and the bad guys.

The art is lovely though. I have been a fan of Manapaul since his days at Top Cow, and it's nice to see how his style has evolved since I last read anything featuring his work.

The story's interesting enough but the art is the highlight of this volume, it's simply stunning. Can't wait to read more!

I thought this was a fun way to re-invent the Flash for the new 52. Wonderful writing and incredible artwork. This volume contains the first major story arc (issues 1-6) while including the beginning of the next arc (issues 7-8). There's also an awesome long story arc occurring in the background that will probably carry over into volume 2 and beyond. And finally, a pleasant surprise while reading this graphic novel: one of the major characters in the first story arc is Filipino. There aren't very many Filipino characters in comics, so I thought he was a great addition to the Flash mythos courtesy of writer Brian Buccellato and artist Francis Manapul (who himself is Filipino). Hope I'll get the chance to read volume 2!

Absolutely amazing art. A fantastic fresh start to the New 52 Flash. Tons of major plot threads have been planted, and the best is yet to come.

If you are new to comics or superheroes, this is an amazing place to start.

An interesting collection with an gripping but sometimes disjointed storyline. I especially liked the time travel subplot. There wasn't as much characterisation and emotional pull as I might have liked, but the art was awesome. The artist managed to put a sense of movement into all the action scenes, essential for this character. Overall, worth a read.

I was so impressed with Manapul's artstyle it was a giant reason why I enjoyed this graphic novel. This is the #1 Flash in the new 52series and they relied on exposition a lot to give us characterization. If this is your first flash comic it does not do Barry Allen justice! Please read other comic so you can see the relationship that Captain Cold and Flash has, The relationship of the Rogues, You know the importance of Cold's sister, and you can get a feel Barry Allen's personality is so much more complex besides just nice.

If you have read Flash comics before this one you will have a more enjoyable experience. If this is your first flash comic I would recommend getting a few older one's so you can learn more about the characters

Fantastic for a first flash story!! I have absolutely no past experience with the flash and have never read a single story so I picked this up hoping I would be able to understand what was going on. This story does a great job of explaining the character and the concepts they introduced were super cool and really easy to understand! I love Barry so much and I’m so excited to keep reading this run!
