Reading this story feels like eating something I'm moderately allergic to and then deliriously stumbling around in the resulting daze (affectionate). Though I've never been anywhere near Singapore in my life, I really did feel transported to the settings of the book. The main characters' stories are interesting and very well-interwoven, and though the book's ending is incredibly anticlimactic it matches well with the rest of the story (or collection of stories). A great depiction of friendship and survival.
