I have very mixed.feelings over this book. It let me realize why I don't read much YA anymore but I can't really hold that against it. I really enjoyed the characters and how everyone is truly morally grey. That was the best part of working through this book instead of just dnfing like I considered. The worst of this is while I am usually rooting for the gays I wish that Soraya leaned into her more dark thoughts and followed Azad. It just isn't that kind of book though.

This was a very interesting book. Enjoyable, engrossing, and educational. By that I mean I learned a lot about Persian myth.
I didn't love the story, and I'm not sure why. I liked it, though!
.
Upon reflection, I think what made me not love it was the utter lack of humor. It is a serious book. A good story, but nothing to make you laugh

I really wanted to love the book and there is no objective reason I can name but somewhere midway thorough the story lost me a little bit. I loved the idea of the story and the messages it tried to convey but I did read another book before finishing this one. Now that I have, I don't know why I had a difficult time with it. Overall it was an enjoyable read though.
