***ARC Review***

This is my honest review for the ARC I received.

I’m a big A.J. Truman fan. I love his approach to writing romance with humor, heart, and heat. This is the third book in his South Rock High series, but can be read as a standalone.

I always enjoy how “real” A.J. Truman’s characters come across. Julian and Seamus both have things that they think make them less appealing or are insecure about: weight, addictions, being worthy of love. They push through like everyone else and do the best they can.

I sincerely appreciated the body positivity in this book, even if Julian is hesitant at first. Julian struggles with his weight and liking how he looks. Society judges him. His mother judges him. Seamus is patient, insistent, and  consistent in his affirmation of his attraction to Julian and Julian’s beauty. Offhanded comments meant to help but that really hurt aren’t excusable, even if they are coming from a place of love by family members. So I was rooting for Seamus when he stood up to Julian’s mother. And I was rooting for Julian when he finally stood up for himself.

Seamus is a genuine and kind person. I loved his go with the flow attitude. Julian is very knowledgeable and always willing to help out. So it was really sweet when Seamus offered to help him lose his V-card, even though Seamus has never been with a man before. (I think it helped that they were colleagues/friends for two years first). I loved seeing Julian grow more confident. It was an unexpected and totally welcome surprise learning how dirty he could talk!

Both MCs have a strong support system in their friends. It was great seeing characters from other books in the series again. It was also cool seeing Greg and Ethan from the Browerton University series show up. Also, I want a Grandma Judy in my life! Julian and Seamus have a strong connection. They have good communication and provide comfort to each other when needed. Their chemistry is undeniable. I loved the Pretty Woman references in this book. Julian and Seamus check off quite a few things before they actually kiss. Once that happens, their emotional and physical connection is even stronger!

The MCs HEA is well deserved. This book made me laugh. It made me smile. It made me wince. It was glorious to read in some parts and hard to read in others. It’s a funny and emotional story that definitely stays with you.

Another fun book by A.J. Truman. This one touched on some more serious things compared to the other books in this series, but it didn't pull away from the funny moments and overall humor in this story. I really related to Julian's character at times. He has some very real struggles and insecurities that I think a lot of people could empathize with. I really loved his character growth throughout this book. His and Seamus's chemistry really fit together nicely. My only qualm is that the overall premise, to me for some reason, didn't feel as strong as the previous books in this series. That said, this is still a very enjoyable read.

This book has so much going on 😭. Like it was wild the amount of subplots and inner demons each character was battling and I do think the author bit off a bit more than they could chew. However I did really like the relationship! ‘‘Twas cute.
