Romance Languages sees Julian get his HEA when Seamus, fellow language teacher and baseball coach, offers to help him get rid of his V-card before his thirty-fifth birthday.
Julian is adorable but so low in self confidence. He's constantly put down by his mother for his weight and any date tends to see him and come up with some excuse or another. He was determined to wait for love but now just wants to not be a virgin anymore. With Seamus, who he may have been slightly crushing on since he joined the faculty two years previously, it becomes more of a lighthearted journey for the both of them, though they're fooling themselves saying it's just a friend helping a friend, and of course, no kissing means no feelings will become involved....
Seamus is so wonderful, it's clear that he really likes Julian from the start and finds him to be a great friend. It's sweet how his feelings evolve for him to have his first bisexual experience and help Julian with what he views as a problem. One of my favourite things about Seamus is his constant compliments and lifting of Julian's confidence, and most of the time he's not even doing it to help Julian, just saying them because that's how he sees his friend.
I love a good nerd/jock romance and this one brings out all the feels as they both share their woes and shame from past encounters and events. Seamus is still literally paying for his and is wary about putting anyone else in that position again but it's clear how much they mean to each other. I am also a big fan of having a big character that becomes comfortable for who they are and the shape of their body as it is, admiration from another always helps, and it's a wonderful emotional journey to read.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Julian is a French teacher at the South Rock High despairing over still being a virgin with his 35th birthday looming over him. He has kept his virginity a secret from his close friends, a group of fellow gay teachers at the school. After a bad date (where a guy from an app rejects Julian because of his size) he confides his secret to Seamus, fellow Spanish teacher and baseball coach, who Julian had a crush on since they started working together. Seamus, who has always been a little bi-curios, volunteers to help Julian get some experience under his belt.
Julian's lack of experience when it came to dating or hooking up stemmed from facing rejection due to size which in turn influenced his own body image and self confidence. Seamus' reasons for not wanting to be in a relationship due to hisgambling addiction and the way it ruined his last relationship made sense. Originally, I expected more sexual tension between Julian and Seamus as they were going through Julian's checklist, instead all their interactions were quite sweet. They always seemed very careful with each other, always checking up with one another if they were both still on the same page during the proceedings. Apart from that I didn't much care one way or the other for the sex scenes even thought they were a big part of the plot. (The dirty talk was a bit out there maybe, but what personally freaked me out more was Seamus using the exact same words as Julian during one encounter.) The way Seamus helped Julian build up his self confidence, after years of both strangers and Julian's family grounding it into the dust, was heartwarming. And the way Julian unconditionally accepted Seamus after Seamus confessed about his financial troubles and his addiction was also great to see.
Near the end of the story there was a slight bump on Julian and Seamus' road to happily ever after which initially made me grumble to myself a little bit but later on I couldn't blame the author for inserting that tiny bit of drama as it ultimately resulted in a tidier resolution of the overall story.
I enjoyed this story, it was sweet and light read. I didn't find myself bored halfway through like I do sometimes with other stories which I always consider a big plus. I guess now might be a good time to finally get back to finishing the first two books in the series (the first one I think I did get kind of bored with halfway through and I was actually quite enjoying the second one, TMI warningwhen I received a news of my grandma's passing and I was unable to pick it up ever since due to some combination of irrational guilt and grief ). I will also be looking out for what I assume will be the last book in the series and Chase's story, even tough I am a bit uncertain when it comes to reading about poly relationships .
Themes: dual POV, jock/nerd, virginity, plus size character, character with an addiction, bisexual awakening
