Mostly world-building.
Pleasant paranormal, plus
Odin, but I need more.

Sorry, book, this is totally on me.
I am a huge fan of Voinov, but there are some books I pull a complete blank on and can't engage despite trying.
This is one of those.
Great descriptions of spiritual journey and selfdiscovery through connection with nature, some very hot sex scenes and importance of emotional support- so if this is something that interests you, give it a go.

I feel like I'm not smart enough to explain EXACTLY why I didn't enjoy this book. As interesting as the history lessons and alternative religions were, I also felt like it dragged on forever. I finally decided to give it up when there were like 10 pages of them just looking at old photographs. I get it, I know that it will be important to the story. But you could have summed that up way faster. Also every chapter felt like a history lesson I needed to take notes for. Interesting, but not really what I picked up this book for.

Witches of London: Lars was very different from the other Aleksandr Voinov books I’ve read (Memory of Scorpions series). I liked Lars himself and his community and I really liked the renovation porn. I don’t know that the romance itself was the strongest; the book was more of an exploration of Lars’ pagan faith. It was interesting, and I appreciated his conversations with Julian, but some of the content went right over my head and I don’t think I gave it the attention it probably deserved.

I found out mid-read that the author has written some romances involving Nazis, which is a complete dealbreaker for me. And sort of hard to reconcile with this story's background, which involves a character leaving a Norse pagan group due to its homophobia and misogyny.

This is very sweet. The problem is that it's just very sweet. Even with the secondary theme of Lars' spiritual journey there is NO TENSION in the book. It ticks along in a nice, mild flow. But that's about it. The writing is lovely, but I often got the sense that there is a little something off with the tenses. I've not read a lot of Voinov, but I get the feeling his writing will be very hit or miss for me. This wasn't quite a miss, but it wasn't a hit either.
