This is an insightful and provocative memoir depicting the truths of working in an unsupportive and out dated NHS and suppressing who you really are. The experiences outlined in this book are difficult to read and are a true eye opener to what goes on in the inner workings of our medical system. The true cheerleaders are rare and medical students and staff are left feeling overwhelmed. Not only did Kay have this to contend with, he also had the breakdown of his marriage, understanding his homosexuality and parental pressure.
All in all, an emotive book that took me by surprise. This is very different from the authors previous comedic accounts so be aware of this before diving in. I was not expecting to read something so heavy which is perhaps why only the 3 star rating. This is subject to change upon reflection

Another great book from Adam Kay! He signed my book which was very kind of him too.
This book actually made me laugh out loud, which probably annoyed my colleagues in the staff room, but whatever.
Also had some unexpected sad points, which were surprising but were written very well. My heart goes out to you Adam, and to all the NHS workers who have lost their lives whilst caring for the public.
I will enquire about getting a memorial tree installed in our hospital trust.
A great read 10/10

The second installment of Adam Kay's life is absolutely as good as the first. Kay is witty, funny, and knows exactly how to tug on your heartstrings and throw in emotional curveballs.

Undoctored is a continuation of Kay's debut novel This is Going to Hurt, following his life after leaving medicine, interspersed with flashbacks to his time in his old career. Kay gives the reader true insights into his own mind and life which really give the feeling that you know this version of him. He's at times achingly relatable and at others completely unlikeable, but throughout the whole book feels entirely and completely human, fuck ups and all.

This book was an absolutely incredible read, and I'll be on Kay's next book, whatever it is, like a wolf on a panini.
