One of the best books I read on the history, present, and possible future of ghost stories in America. I'm a bigger sucker for the sociological and anthropological roots and forces that drive ghost stories so this book was a complete treat. This book really doesn't shy away from the dark history of most of the ghost stories and I absolutely loved the thesis that "even if we could dispel [ghost stories] once and for all, we need them too badly".
