Besides the fact I am a total MJ Fox stan, I have thoroughly enjoyed all his books. His optimism and ability to laugh at himself shine and lift the book to a very relatable level.

Often funny, but with a good depth of exploring what it's like to live with PD and other unexpected health scares. A relatable read for anyone who has faced recovery/disability. The real frustrations with your own body when it won't or can't do the basics. Fox maintains optimism and dips into realistic views of mortality before regaining a grasp on gratitude in life. Good perspectives all around.
I started to wonder about the turtle on the chapter headers, and found the explanation at the end of the book. Late 50s tattoo? Why the hell not!

Michael J. Fox was one of my middle school heartthrobs and I love hearing him read his story. While I knew he had endured many challenges as a result of his Parkinson's, it is incredible to hear how much he has suffered and yet how positive he remains. He seems like such a down-to-earth person and it's so evident that he adores his wife and kids.

mini synopsis:
A moving account of resilience, hope, fear and mortality, and how these things resonate in our lives, by actor and advocate Michael J. Fox. In No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality, Michael shares personal stories and observations about illness and health, aging, the strength of family and friends, and how our perceptions about time affect the way we approach mortality.
thoughts:
I really enjoyed this audiobook! Definitely a slower paced, reflective memoir. Listening to Fox narrate this from his home during the height of the pandemic definitely made an even further an impact on the reading experience. I loved watching Family Ties reruns as a kid. And after only having ever seen bits and pieces of Back to the Future, my husband made sure I watched it in it's entirety. Michael J. Fox's life is so interesting to read about, and his outlook on a chronic and progressive illness is humbling.
