This story developed interestingly. Nina keeps finding herself in new problems. I can't wait to see how this is going to wrap up as so many things changed over the course of the plot.

Nina Oberon is back in this sequel to Karr's XVI. Truth takes place immediately after XVI ends. Nina and her sister are still attending school, and living with their grandparents. When Child Protective Services issue a writ declaring Nina's grandparents unsuitable guardians, and Pops finds himself arrested by B.O.S.S. Nina and her sister find themselves in a whole lot of trouble. What will happen to them, how will they elude the government this time?

Something about Karr's writing style just draws me into her novels. I don't know what it is about the way she writes, but it is so accessible and inviting even when I am tired after a day of work. A couple of times I was so tired when I got home I didn't want to read until I picked up Truth then I became so engrossed that I didn't want to put it down.

This novel is definitely a continuation of the first. Which means, you really must read the first to understand the situations in this novel.

That being said, I really enjoyed this sequel. Although not as thoroughly terrifying as the first novel, this one definitely had you on the edge of your seat as you watched Nina try to navigate the system once more.

Karr's dystopia is very involved and heavily regulated. It is a world where the media runs the nation, and because of their antifeminist tendencies, they have created a world where it is dangerous to be a woman. Once again sex is a central topic in this novel, but it is only really talked about.

Nina Oberon is becoming more and more of an adult as these novels progress, and it is refreshing to see a character change and grow. She is a strong female character who wants to do the right thing, and seeks to make her world a better place.

Overall this is a wonderful continuation of the series. In many ways, this book was even better than the first. Karr knows how to build tension and keep the reader engaged. Her writing just keeps getting better. I love these novels and can't wait to read more.

Cautions for sensitive readers: While there is no explicit sex in this novel there is discussion of sex slavery and an attempted rape. There is definitely some violence in this novel.

Sequel to XVI. Nina is now 16 and has the government mandated tattoo that announces to the world that she is now of the legal age to have sex. This obviously makes girls with the tattoo and easy target for predators. Nina and a group of other girls band together to fight against the government and against this stereotype. But it's neither easy, nor safe.

Ok, so after finishing the 2nd book in the series, I still have problems with the premise. The story is interesting enough for me to keep reading, but I can't ever fully enjoy a story like this until I know when, where, why, how, and who's responsible for how things got the way they are.
I sort of have a feel for alot of it, but I can't seem to forget the whole XVI tattoo. What possible benefit could this idea have(obviously lied about) to get everyone to accept it and not completely revolt? All I saw was the tattoo elevated in the media as being this great thing, but it's a ridiculous idea considering the way things are today. People would never accept something like that without a huge story to go along with it. Why are 16 year old girls considered legal? Why is this tattoo supposedly protecting them? We never hear that story in the books. Just what things are like in the future.
And some of the lingo really irritated me at first. I've gotten used to it, but it really sounds like the author was trying to hard to be futuristic.
Still it's an interesting story and I'm curious to see how it will go if another book comes out. Hopefully that stuff will be explained.

[bc:Truth|12979466|Truth (XVI, #2)|Julia Karr|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1328322296s/12979466.jpg|15751878] Julia Karr should have stopped after the first book XVI. The sequel was long and unnecessary. I would have liked the book to focus more on Nina's situation transforming her into a strong woman who makes an impact on the social issues she faced (like she seemed to want to do) instead of all of her "girl lost in love" woes.

I'm interested in finding out if they plan to make another book in this series. I really enjoyed delving into the lives of the Jenkinses and the sisterhood. The book did start off a bit slow but it definitely picked up and the last half of it was great.

A great follow up to XVI. Nina has to deal with even more problems now that she has her tattoo and Ed's disappearance is being investigated. Another boy complicates her relationship with Sal, and she begins to question if she wants to live the same life her mother did with her father. Nina really steps up to embrace her role in the Resistance in this novel, and her friends, new and old, are once again there to support her. I am really interested in how the next book turns out because the ending of Truth leaves a lot of room for the sequel. And I was a bit surprised how everything ended in Truth, which is a nice surprise when reading YA. Can't wait to see what Karr does next!

*I read the ARC for Truth through the Around the World Arc Tour.

This was one of those books where the 2nd one was actually better than the first one

I think I liked this one better than I liked XVI, although I'm assuming that Karr must be planning a 3rd, because there was pretty much no closure to much of anything.

Amazing. I am so glad to finally read about a character who calls the boys and men in her life out on their BS protective attitude
