Way too short even for a short story! So happy it was free!

Favorite series

This is one of my all time favorite series. I welcome the new story about Stark's time as Lucifer and the evolving mythos.

Just when you think you've seen all the twists and turns, there's one more. That's the core of this short story set in the depths of Hell. In several ways, the myth of Henoch Breach is more appealing than the truth and what ends up happening.

I found the ending rather unsatisfying. It totally fits the theme but it's not what I wanted. Probably because I'd like Stark to win more than he actually does. If you've read the first three books in the series, you know he hasn't actually won anything except a few big pointers.

I hope what happened here will make a pivotal difference in the series ahead. That crazy inclusion will make me more happy about the fact that I read this story.

It was a great little short that I enjoyed a lot.

It's the first time I've listened to a Sandman Slim book as I've read the previous novels before 5. I think the narrator captured the characters quite well and helped bring the story alive.

I originally rated this story 4.5 stars. Shame on nefarious little me and stuff.

Bloody shrimping hell, I'm so glad I ditched Taste of Marrow of the Emotional Saps to read this. Best Decision Ever (BDE™).

Why?

Because this world. Dark + gritty + violent + full of evil bastards = just beautiful.
Because this writing. Because those dialogues. Straight to the gut + hilarious + sarcastic + irreverent = simply marvelous.
Because this plot. Fast paced + tons of gory action + wondrous twists + Hell (aka the Kingdom of assholes) setting = utterly stupendous.
Because enchanting cast of secondary characters. Scumbags + treacherous bastards + delightfully reluctant chattel associates = absolutely glorious.
Because MY boyfriend Jimmy Stark. Dat voice + magnificently screwed up + blade-wielding badass + no little morals + total disrespect for everything and everyone + new malevolent responsibilities = yummy in my tummy. If the guy keeps this up, he's going to outrank all the other slaves guests in the high security wing of my High Security Harem. So watch the fish out, Daniel Faust & friends, for Sandman Slim is out to get you!

P.S. This series? It's a teensy little bit orgasmic shrimptastic. Just so you know.

I have the sexiest underwear ever, I know.

Sandman is still in Hell. This story moved along and then it was over. It didn't put me in a place that I want to be.

I enjoyed the other Sandman Slim stories but this one just rubbed me the wrong way right from the start.

These things have always been more style over substance but in the past that has been part of the fun. This time it's just obnoxious. Even after reading the other books I felt like I was reading the second part of a three part story. There just wasn't enough there to feel like a complete piece of fiction.

My disappointment with this novella aside I'm still looking forward to Devil Said Bang. The novel just seems like a better length for Sandman Slim stories.

This was an interesting little diversion in the Sandman Slim universe. I felt a little less engaged than I did in the novels; I didn't feel as connected to the characters as I usually do. It was nice to learn a bit more about the original Hell, but I feel a little cheated that Stark won't remember any of it. Ah well.

This short story doesn't contribute much to the Sandman Slim mythos, which given its scope is understandable: the author was obviously not planning on making huge plot advances in Devil in the Dollhouse, but the story is nonetheless a nice break from the wreck that was Aloha from Hell; it does provides quite an interesting bit of Hell's backstory though, which is always nice and in my opinion makes the purchase worthwhile.
