Calamity Jack was just as fun as Rapunzel's Revenge. It was interesting to read about Jack's backstory and how he came to be with his magic beans. In this second book, you can see his friendship with Rapunzel grow into something more (I still love how he calls her "Punzie" even though she doesn't like it at first) and you get introduced two a few new characters as well. There are still giants to be dealt with and bad guys to get away from, but the fun is still there. You can see how Jack fights with his "I'm a bad guy" nature to try to be someone Rapunzel will like and his mother will be proud of. By the end of the book, you just want to hug him. I also thought it was awesome that the authors made him Native American. This book is definitely one I'll be adding to my shelf to be read again.

Strap in, folks, because it'll whisk you off your feet. Every page contains a delight, from screaming Brownies who when placated look like sobered-up Irish football fans, to a bone-grinding machine that makes THE most godawful onomatopoeic noise it has ever been my misfortune to read.

Considering that this book came out in 2010, I’m guessing there aren’t anymore books like this in the works. So depressing! This was fun, but not as fun as Rapunzel. The plot in Rapunzel’s Revenge was more complicated and interesting. I did like Calamity Jack, I just wish Freddie would have been a mysterious fairy tale character, also. (I might have missed something there; I was reading very quickly!) Then the third book could have been his back story! Oh, well. This was still a great read!

An interesting take on Jack and the Beanstalk, I enjoyed it's location and how Hale incorporated the Castle in the sky, and the bone grinding. I felt like some aspects, were crammed in there and a little odd. Overall a good book, I will have to read Rapunzel's revenge again to see how it ties into this book. I hope they continue with this series, I would love to see what else they could do in a steampunk, wild west, mixed up fairy tale world. For kids who like graphic novels, and mixed up fairy tales, fourth grade on up aimed more at boys but girls would like it too.

Wanted to try a graphic novel since they are so popular with my kids. Not a favorite genre but a fun story nevertheless.

Think I enjoyed this a lot more than the first book! Love all the fairytale inspiration while still being it's own very unique thing.
