Extremely good book. I don't think i even read the premise of the book when i started it but it was an incredible read. Has you on the edge of your seat the whole time and seeing Laura's determination is very inspiring.
This book is truly frightening. It is a psychological horror story that will haunt you for years after reading it.

Wow!
I found this book on a list of horror books that are too intense to read. I found it too intense to put down. The depths of madness, the power of a mother's love...spot on.

DNF. Stopped after the first chapter.
Although this book was SO far outside my comfort zone, I picked it to fulfill two reading challenges I am participating in this year (1. My library’s winter reading challenge which is horror themed and 2. The Book Riot Read Harder prompt for “read an award-winning book from the year you were born”) As the mother of an infant, there is no way I would have gotten through this book unscathed. The only pages I read were so graphic in their descriptions about child abuse that I had to stop and put the book away to keep from crying.

I’ll never look at a smiley face the same again
Graphic: Child abuse
Not good choice for expected mothers
Mine, by Robert McCammon, is one of the most frightening books I have read in my entire life. And that's counting the fifty-odd Stephen King, ten-odd Dan Simmons, and twenty-odd Dean Koontz novels I've also completed. From the very beginning, Mine moves at breakneck speed, showering the reader with visceral details that made even me, a die-hard horror fan, shiver in his chair. Never before have I hated a character as much as I hated Mary Terror; she is a drug-addicted, delusional, sadistic, psychopathic, evil monster with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, and whenever McCammon described her cradling poor Laura Clayborne's stolen baby in her gigantic arms, I became more and more thankful that she is not, and will never be, a real human being. Laura's character, as well as the tragic subplot of Belinda "Didi" Morse, enthralled me, and each and every one of the minor characters were well thought-out and three-dimensional. Come to think of it, there was not a single point in this text (as there has been in most horror novels I've read) where I thought, "Why is she doing that?" or, "Come on! Get on with it!" The characters acted exactly how I would imagine them doing so in such a tense situation, and never once did the action flag, never once did I lose faith in Laura and her fierce determination to retrieve her newborn son, never once did I regret spending ten dollars on this thrilling novel. McCammon's best work to date, Mine is well worth reading and a new favorite on my personal list.
