I think Christina Lauren might be my favorite chick lit writer right now. Sure, some of it is over the top, but I like the characters, and the writing is snappy.
I read lots of books. Lots and lots. I’ve given 5 stars to many books. This one is above and away at least the best one I have read all year.
I couldn’t put it down.
The main characters are compelling and real. Holland’s insecurities and fear of only ever being a supporting character in someone else’s life rang true. And, of course, I fell for Calvin completely. I’m afraid I’ll dream of him like she did and my neighbors will hear me through our thin walls.
I cried a few times and the restaurant table scene had me laughing out loud in actual real life.
I read the whole thing start to finish and ruined all my plans of running errands and a lunch date and phone calls to friends.
I believe I’ve read most of their other books and will be anxiously awaiting the next.

When a quirky meet-cute leads to an immediate green card wedding, complications follow. Holland is not the strongest female protagonist ever to grace a page. A trashy and quick beach read.
I loved this. It was funny and heartbreaking and beautiful. My only quibble is that by the time it got to the end, my heart felt wrung out for Holland and I really wanted Calvin to have given just a little more. I don't think grand gestures are always necessary because they can be so cliche, but there was just something anti-climactic about the ending. Perhaps if I knew there would be a book two that would help.
