Stylized acrylic illustrations accompany the rhyming text about a paperboy's work. Nice, but doesn't necessarily ring true for kids these days (as they aren't used to getting a paper).

Another book with beautiful art and a lovely story. I loved the colour palette used and the contrasts between night and day. A very enjoyable picture book.

I wonder what children would think of this today? Are there any paperboys out there or are they extinct? What do children do today that even compares to delivering the paper. This triggered an interesting conversation with my 82 year old dad - he delivered papers in Detroit when he was a kid. He can't remember how old he was, but he said, imagine doing that in the SLEET. Or how many of his customers had lived in apartments and he had to use the stairs. On Sundays his dad would drive him so that he could come with the family to church.

Caldecott Honor 1997 - I wonder how many children would understand what it means to be a paperboy and the responsibilities that it entailed. Children would hardly be allowed that kind of task today for fear of something happening to them.

I was blown away by the art and the words, but also the experience of being out by oneself in the early morning when everyone else is asleep.

Borrowed the read aloud version of this - Wonderbooks makes them- just before shelter in place was issued for the pandemic. It seemed a bit too advanced for a 2 year old but Conner loves it. The story is wonderfully narrated, and the music is a nice match. It was fun watching the paperboys travels before the town woke up as he returned to bed.
