06/11/24 4.5/5 stars. The narrator’s recount was unsettling, haunting, surprisingly witty and silly, and based in a reality that really grounded the story and built the atmosphere. I loved the incompleteness of his journal and felt his urgency and desperation.
The horror in this book is mild yet chilling. I loved the warping of time and perception and shadows. I think further rereads will solidify and deepen the gravity of the narrator’s situation and possibly raise this novella’s near-perfect rating even higher.
