DNF’ed at page 44. The book is over 400 pages and written in painstaking detail. I got bored reading the description of a single breath the FMC took. Wasn’t going to force myself to get through it. Also the call their truce way too early and with almost zero build up or provocation. Very unrealistic decision making here. This is supposed to be an enemies to lovers, but the reason the hate each other so much is so unbelievable. Not rational in the slightest.

Jo - NOT Josephine, despite what Jack Lancaster thinks - has mixed feelings when her boss announces that she’s going to a very selective conference that could do wonders for her career. There’s happy, excited, and shocked - because Jack gets the second ticket. The shock turns to horror when she realizes that her douchy ex will be there, and that a great way to show him she’d moved on is with a fake boyfriend. And as her best friend loudly points out in the middle of a bar, the unfairly attractive Jack will be there.

This isn’t going to end well.
“So, what you’re saying is I’m kind of like an unexpected paradise, huh?”
An Unexpected Paradise had me laughing from the first line! Jack’s POV and his agonizing over Jo was hilarious and definitely a highlight of the story. I loved how Jo began to fall for him over the course of the conference. I did think that their initial truce was a bit rushed, however. They had the moment at the bar, which was really nicely written, and then the next page they declared a truce and it seemed like everything was fine between them. I would’ve liked for it to be drawn out a bit more. I was very disappointed when they had two rooms for the conference, and cheered happily when they were stranded and the classic one-bed trope came into play. All in all, it was an incredible read - some might call it unexpectedly incredible - and I would definitely recommend reading it.
