This book did a good job highlighting what it is like for Elena to come back to her city changed as an Angel and having to relearn how it feels to be in her own home, showing how people can be accepting or not about these changes.

This book also focuses on paternal figures and how they shape the lives of their children even if they aren't actively involved in their lives anymore. I felt the book also focused on these elements more than the mystery that was there to keep the plot going. Whilst that is not a bad thing but it should be someone people are aware of when reading this book.

This was great in keeping with the rest of the series but for me it has too little of the outcome with Raphael’s mom. There was sooo much building of the potential of what Caliane’s power could mean and what she could want from Raphael that the expectation of what the climax would be was not met. It was interesting and action-packed as can be expected. There was a perfect blend of romance and action, but we didn’t make much progress with the overarching plot in this book and I thought that would mean we got another book featuring Elena and Raphael but it seems like with Book 4, we will be shifting speed and getting Dmitri’s story which is good- but he featured so lightly in this book that I’m less excited about his book than I would have been after Books 1 or 2- unless of course we’re being set up for more overarching archangel drama. Still super invested in this series and looking forward to more.
